Why do
children suffer tooth decay? In a word - FOOD! We have found
in discussions with thousands of parents that most parents are not
aware of the strong link between food their child eats and tooth
decay. When asked what they think is the reason their child has
decay, most parents will respond "poor brushing" or "not flossing".
While everyone knows that these are important in maintaining good
oral health, we also know that it is the diet which modifies the
environment in the mouth and can create the PERFECT STORM of tooth
decay. Frequent eating of foods high in carbohydrate helps decay
causing bacteria to overgrow the so-called "good bacteria".
Diet is a highly personal habit shaped by family, culture and
personal choice. There are no right or wrong diets. However, there
are foods we know are more likely to cause decay. To help you, we
have provided an information sheet which you can download by

This sheet provides examples of foods which we suggest you avoid or
limit as well as foods which we know are "DENTAL HEALTHY".
Good eating!
